This is an adapter for M42 and T2 lenses. It snaps into the undercut that every (metal) screw mount has. This specific adapter is for undercuts with ~1.5mm height. Newer lenses (after 1985) usually have smaller undercuts, use https://clara.io/view/33b11aaf-4df2-4a13-96ed-032427a773cf for those.
